Acoustic Chambers

An earphone shell is part of the acoustic system. The air in front of and behind a diaphragm, the sound outlet and the ventilation paths affect how a driver behaves when coupled to an ear.

Front and rear cavities

Cavity volume and connections set acoustic loading. A larger chamber is not automatically better; its effect depends on the driver and the surrounding network.

Nozzles, vents and damping

Narrow passages, mesh and porous damping influence resistance, acoustic mass and resonances. Evaluate them together instead of assigning a sound signature to one dimension.

Fit and leakage

An ear-tip leak can change bass response. Separate intended ventilation from an unstable seal before interpreting a frequency-response curve or applying equalization.
